UNTHSC Geriatrics-Internal Medicine Fellowship Program

Geriatrics-Internal Medicine Fellowship Program

The Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is a cooperative training project that partners academic, public and private health care systems. The goal of the program is to prepare trainees to assume roles as clinical practitioners, academic leaders and community advocates in the field of geriatric medicine. Research, teaching, and administrative components are based on a didactic curriculum and practicum supervised by an experienced team of faculty at the health science center and its affiliate institutions. Candidates for appointment to the program may select either of two tracks. The academic track will comprise two years of clinical education, research mentorship and administrative skills. The clinical track will comprise one year of intense clinical management with basic concepts of geriatric health care administration.

Clinical experiences include both inpatient and ambulatory care opportunities. Fellows are expected to participate in clinical services provided at senior living and long-term care facilities, community based services for elders, and homebound patients in the Dallas and Fort Worth areas. These clinical sites provide geriatric clinical experiences throughout the continuum of care and multidisciplinary integration.

The University of North Texas Health Science Center is a member of the Texas Consortium of Geriatric Education Centers. This organization provides program enrichment in education and administration and serves as an important resource for the Geriatric Fellowship. Click here for our Stipends and Benefits.
